VOLUNTEER TODAY
Overview

Focuses
Foster Kinship Sports focuses on using structured athletics to support the emotional and developmental needs of youth in foster and kinship care. Through trauma-informed coaching and mentorship, it helps children build confidence, discipline, and a sense of belonging.
It also supports kinship caregivers—often relatives—by offering resources, workshops, and wellness programs. The goal is to strengthen the family unit and equip caregivers to better guide the children in their care.

Objectives
The organization aims to stabilize and uplift youth through sports, mentorship, and after-school programs. These efforts improve behavior, school performance, and emotional well-being for kids in non-traditional homes.
Another key objective is advocacy. Foster Kinship Sports raises awareness, builds partnerships, and pushes for better support systems for kinship families through education and policy outreach.

Goals
A major goal is to build a national model of trauma-informed sports leagues for foster and kinship youth. This includes community partnerships and accessible, safe sports environments.
The organization also aims to develop leadership paths for foster youth aging out of care, training them as mentors, coaches, and community leaders within the program.

Target Audience
Foster Kinship Sports serves children ages 11–18 in foster or kinship care. Programs are designed for emotional growth, structure, and inclusion, especially for underserved or traumatized youth.
It also supports caregivers, social workers, and community partners. These groups benefit from wraparound services and collaborative efforts that strengthen the overall support system.
